Being a princess isn't supposed to be hard, or so I presume from the books I have read, all they had to do was to sit and wait for a handsome prince to come to marry them.
But I found out that it was make-believe the hard way, having to have lessons every day for 5 hours ranging from etiquette to archery, lords and sons of lords from everywhere coming to our castle to try and sway my mother to gain my hand in marriage to snag my kingdom for their own, but every single one that came to me, I would dismiss, and this wasn't because they weren't nice guys, some seemed to be lovely men but there was one little problem, I don't even like guys, I don't like anyone really, well except for one, my figuratively speaking lady in waiting, although she was more princess material than me, I'd rather be a knight or a warrior than a princess, I preferred my fighting training and that was clear when I was being trained, I put everything into it, but my problem is, that I'm in love with my lady in waiting, and even if I told her, she would reject me, she was engaged to be married and liking women, that was wrong in everyone's eyes, including even hers most probably.
But let me tell you about myself, I'm the princess of Adalia, A large kingdom, the only kingdom in fact except for a small island nation that is ruled by a king, who is an ignorant pig, his son is exactly the same as him, but young, which brings forward my next problem, my mother has arranged for us to meet, she wishes for us to marry, so now I have a big predicament, to go after the one I love or bend to my mother's wishes and marry the arrogant son of an evil king, Oh how I wish my life would be easy.
So let's get this party on the road, I'll begin my story the day I found out my mother's intent and ironically the day I found out I had fallen in love with a woman.
A young woman stood standing in her riding attire, looking out from a balcony, she was the princess of Adalia, Amber Taera, next in line to the throne, once her mother retires from the throne, her long black hair was plaited tightly to her head, it ran down to her shoulder blades, and when untied it was almost to her hips, she had one thing that made her not as slightly, she had purple eyes, a deep violet and compared to her mother's grey eyes and her father's which were exactly the same to her mother's, which had brought forwards allegations towards her parentage but this had been eliminated by a sorcerer who had tested her to prove whether it was true or not, her father had been overjoyed with the results and he had gone to hunting with the thoughts of returning safely after, but he hadn't.
Amber sighed and stretched to her full 5 feet 8 inches and smiled as she thought of how she towered over every other woman in court. She saw her mother walking towards her and smiled. "Amber, my dear it is not princess like to stay in your riding attire after your lessons, what would any of your potential suitors think of the eighteen year old princess dressed like a man." The queen said, a disapproving tut escaping her lips.
"Mother I was just about to go change when I saw you approaching, I will go change soon mother, with the help of Lady Carmen." Amber said with a smile, her emotions flowing through when she mentioned her lady in waiting but brushed such things away to the back of her mind.
"I came for a reason daughter, Prince Saluk is coming with his father to discuss peace treaties amongst our two nations, I am hoping for him to show interest in you as his bride." The queen said, placing her hand on Amber's shoulder.
"Mother, I usually trust you entirely but this is madness, he is psychotic, he would only want me to be his wife to widen his kingdom and I am not giving this kingdom to him, the people would suffer and considering he thinks he is the gift to women and has probably fathered many bastard children even though he is just a year older than me, yet he is not spoken of positively in this kingdom, mother you cannot be seriously thinking of binding me to such a man." Amber exclaimed with wide eyes then sighed. "I apologise mother for being so bold, please excuse me, I must go change." He murmured and turned away, heading to her private chambers, she sighed as soon as she walked in, her lady in waiting was already in the room, having had meetings of her own to attend, she had already sorted out the dress that was for Amber to wear, she smiled as she noticed another set beside it, a prince like outfit but with a more feminine look about it.
"Carmen you are a life saver." She muttered as she looked up at the blonde girl with blue-grey eyes.
Carmen stood at around 5 foot 4 inches, so she stood to Amber's shoulder, she was always dressed in simple dresses but they seemed to suit her and made her look elegant, she had been followed by many trying to take her hand in marriage and finally she had accepted one of the men who had sought after her, but she was waiting for the princess to marry before her.
Amber smiled over at Carmen and barely audibly sighed, she had found she had some kind of feelings towards Carmen, which included extreme jealousy whenever she knew Carmen and her betrothed were meeting to discuss their wedding or house hunting etc.
'She should be with me... Not him, he doesn't love her as I do!' Amber growled in her head, before looking out in alarm because of two things, one she had said it out loud as well and two, she hadn't thought anything like this before and she had just admitted to herself that she was in love with Carmen.
"Madam, may I be so bold and ask what you just meant." Carmen said quietly, looking at Amber, her head tilted to the side.
"It's umm nothing." Amber murmured, staring at the floor.
"Amber, come on, you always tell me what's wrong, it's clear you love some girl, I could help." Carmen said, clearly not bothered by the fact it was a woman not a man she was in love with.
Amber shook her head violently, blushing brightly.
"Is it me?" She asked softly, tilting her head again.
"What, how'd you guess?!?" Amber whispered, frowning.
"Well I feel the same so I was sort of hoping it." Carmen murmured, looking at her feet.
"But... but you're engaged
well last time I checked." She murmured.
"Well I had to occupy my mind somehow, but he knew the circumstance of this, and knew if you showed interest that I would have to break the engagement, he understood completely." She said with a smile.
"Cammi, you really love me?" Amber asked softly.
Carmen nodded with a grin.
"That's good." Amber said and smirked, pulling Carmen close, into a hug before she kissed her softly.
"Well at least one good thing happened today." Amber whispered into her ear, kissing her neck.
